Auto Evaluation Program FAQs


What is the “Evaluation Program”?
The Evaluation Program is a major step in our catastrophe hiring process that is based on skills and knowledge needed in the field.  During the program, applicants work a fictitious claim to demonstrate their individual abilities and skill gaps.  The program is also intended to help those who are new to the catastrophe field get a realistic view of what is expected of them in this profession.  Another purpose is to identify areas where improvement or enhancement may be needed in both the newer and more experienced adjusters interested in working with Pilot.

What happens in the “Evaluation Program”?
Essentially the same type of activities an adjuster would do in the field, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Initial Contact Exercise
  • Documentation Skills Exercises
  • Customer Services Skills Exercises
  • Estimating Writing Exercise
  • Hail- and/or Collision-Damaged Vehicle
  • Flood-Damaged Vehicle
  • Total Loss Evaluation
  • Negotiation/Claim Settlement Exercises
  • Claim Closure and File Construction Exercises


Then, you will participate in a One-on-One Interview/Consultation with one of our Automobile Management Team Members and a Human Resources Representative where your individual performance is reviewed.

Those who receive an offer of employment must then complete Pilot’s Safety and Sexual Harassment programs, complete the necessary Human Resources paperwork and attend an orientation for one of our client companies to get a temporary deployment rating.

I am an experienced adjuster.  Why should I have to go through this program?

There are several reasons.  First of all, the program helps verify your skills and abilities.  That is a very important necessity in today’s industry.  Pilot must be confident in your abilities prior to your deployment.  This will also increase your opportunities for deployment.  We are always looking for solid, experienced, professional adjusters.

Second, even the best adjusters can get rusty in some areas.  This program often serves in assisting adjusters to enhance their skills and knowledge to keep them at the top of their profession.

Third, most insurance companies want claims handled their way.  During this session we will explain the differences between paperwork processes and storm expectations for the different client companies for which Pilot handles claims.  It makes it easier for you, the adjuster, to arrive at a storm location with an idea of what is expected of you from both Pilot and the insurance carrier.

Does Pilot offer the technical training I might need?
Pilot does offer a technical training program for auto.  However, this program is not offered on a regular schedule.  Pilot staff can direct you to other possible sources for technical training.

Do I have to have an adjuster’s license to attend the program?
No, but you must have a license in order to be deployed.  Begin with your home state if it requires a license.  If
not, you’ll need to get one from another state, preferably a testing state.

What is the fee for the program?  How often is if offered?
There is no fee for the program, although you are responsible for your travel expenses.  The program is held on an "as-needed" basis.  Look under Careers on this website, then Evaluation Program Schedule for the current schedule.

How do I get into the program?
Complete a Pilot application online at by clicking on the Apply Now link in the Careers at Pilot box on the main page of this website.  Once your application has been submitted, a Human Resources representative will contact you.

May I bring my spouse?
No.  For legal reasons, we do not permit visitors in the program.

How soon after attending the Evaluation Program can I expect to be deployed?

That is entirely dependent on your skill levels and our need for adjusters in the field at any given time.  You may be called out the next week; however, sometimes it is much longer before your services are needed.
